4TV arrived cracked  Aug 31, 2010
I usually have great results when ordering through Amazon. The shipping company they used (Pilot)gave me lots of problems. The scheduled time I arranged at checkout wasn't honored because (as Pilot says) they never received the product from Amazon. When I mentioned to Pilot that they had sent me confirmation e-mails confirming the delivery date they just defaulted to "we never received it". I rescheduled, the date came and the 3 hour window came and went - I called to ask if the delivery was going to happen (the guy was really nice) and about an hour later the TV showed up. Finally! Well, at least I had it. So I help bring it up and the box looked really clean so I signed for it and tipped the delivery guy.

I open it up and the front glass is all broken. Many, many cracks all over the front.

Amazon said they would replace it immediately (again, the rep was really nice). But wait. Nope. They are sold out and if I wanted that same TV I would have to get it from a 3rd party seller on Amazon ($400 increase).

Buying a television on-line has usually worked really well for me. Sometimes, it doesn't go so well.

1unbelievable  Aug 28, 2010
After reading all the bad reviews, I should not have ordered this but the low price was too tempting. On arrival, the unit had LOUD buzzing and no picture. I will try another model.

1Buzzing (You might think a Bumble Bee is stuck in your ear)  Aug 25, 2010
The picture is awesome, the look to the TV is amazing, but when I called customer service to complain about the buzzing (after a number of friends and family had mentioned it), the technician informed me that I had purchased the wrong TV. He said that the 58" TV is only for home theater use, and a person would have to be at least 25-30 ft. away from the screen. Apparently my 4000 sq ft. open concept house is not going to cut it. Executive customer service was o.k. to work with until I got Sheena B. #35, who treated me like garbage. Sometimes when you call customer service, you get the wrong person, but Sheena B. #35 takes it to a whole new level. She made going to the DMV seem like going on vacation. Of course Samsung says that the buzzing is normal and there is nothing that I can do. I guess the technician was right, I bought the wrong TV. I wish Samsung would have let me know before I paid all that money for what I though would be a winner. I wish they would have said that their customer service department was trained to leave people out in the cold.

5Amazing Deal for an Amazing TV  Jul 29, 2010
First I'd like to address the buzzing noise since this has been the make or break for this TV. Yes there is a slight "hum" when you turn the TV on, but is literally impossible to hear. I sat in so many places trying to hear it and really the only place I could get audible "hum" was immediately in front of the TV or behind it. If you want to know what the "hum" sounds like, turn on an older CRT computer monitor and stick your ear an inch away from the screen. That is it! If you can be completely honest that the decision to get this TV is based solely on this tiny "hum" then you are just unlucky to not experience such a great picture.
Conclusion: The "hum" is insignificant and unless you watch your TV on mute, you will never notice. I definitely would have never noticed if not for I was trying to hear for it and worked to hear it. Nobody in my house knows about it and that's 5 people who watch the TV and have never heard a "hum."

The picture is exceptional! The blacks are very deep and the colors are rich. Motion (NHL, NFL, NBA, MLB, Racing) all look amazing with absolutely no motion-blur. Furthermore, the color accuracy is dead-on. Watching movies with a lot of fast motion with a contrasting background often shows the problem with color accuracy but not the case here. Crisp lines and more importantly great contrast even at low levels. My only caveat is the initial factory settings. The sharpness was WAY too high! Also the burn-in protection was not set to on so that needed to be changed. Very minor issues that are all fixable very quickly.
Conclusion: Technically exceptional picture with very little (and quickly resolved) image retention and ZERO burn-in.

All in all this is a great TV with an exceptional list of features. I would recommend it to literally anyone. There are zero true cons with the TV and only little things like factory settings that can be changed. The "hum" is insignificant and is definitely a normal sound heard from properly working monitors.

4Absolutely Stunning Picture  Jul 28, 2010
This is easily one of the best TVs I have laid eyes on. The picture quality is absolutely gorgeous. Here's the thing, I fully understand that there are plenty of sets out there with popping, vibrant colors. That's not my cup of tea. I want realistic colors, not over-saturated cartoony tones. I have in fact seen better black levels (Panasonic Viera), but by no means is this Samsung's levels unacceptable.

I have also had the buzzing issue with my initial set. However, that was not the reason I returned it. I had a 50" version that had a bad component connection. The buzzing was minor when the volume was up. I guess some people just get too annoyed with it. My current set buzzes a lot less. In fact, I found out that plugging it into a surge protector rather than directly into the outlet completely got rid of the buzzing altogether.

Another minor gripe I have is image retention. Though, every plasma is prone to image retention. I didn't break mine in before watching stations with static logos. I can't even tell it's there anyway unless I turn off all my lights and switch to a completely black screen and go close to the TV to look at it. And even then, I have a warranty on this beauty. I don't regret my purchase one bit. People can cry about the slight buzzing all they want. Heck, cars that pass by in my neighborhood are much louder. And I have this thing in my small bedroom!

About the sound, no use in complaining about that. There is no flat panel TV out there with good sound. Get a sound system if that is your gripe. This is what happens when you go slim. Deal with it. You spent this much already, what's another couple hundred for a speaker system?
